Looking back at it now, I can think of 3 reasons for pretending to be someone else and how it could be a valuable part of your spiritual journey. However, when a friend told me how she and her husband passed themselves off as Lord and Lady Muckety Muck on a recent holiday, and had the time of their lives I was puzzled. ‘How is that possible?’ I wondered. They were pretending to be totally different people.

‘Why would someone do that?’, my practical Virgo mind wondered. I once had the most bizarre experience at a Murder Mystery evening with a friend. She was off solving the crime and I was trying to really connect with the folks I was meeting, rather than the personnas they were donning for the night’s event. Darn Empath trying to make real connections!

But what if pretending is a powerful and positive use of our imaginations on our personal journeys to becoming our most Authentic Self? Three thoughts came to mind when I took time to reflect.

1. Spicing up our lives – We try and add pizzazz to our lives in a number of ways.. sometimes to numb out what we are truly feeling and other times to reconnect to then true essence of who we are.

IMG_6024Getting out of our regular routine, our comfort zone, helps us feel alive. Heck, I have clients choose Spirit Quest Tours like the recent Soul Whispers in Sedona experience or personalized Soul Journeys anywhere in the world they wish because they are looking at making a meaningful connection to their Inner Wisdom to fulfill their soul’s purpose.

Initially stepping into our power and living authentically might feel like we have become someone else, but once checking in with our inner GPS (God/dess Positioning system) becomes then we feel safe enough to expand our lives to include more of who we truly are when we are at home as well as away on exciting excursions. And when we are present to our daily lives the way we are on one week adventures our everyday experiences can go from feeling like black and white/same old same old to living life in technicolour! Electric and alive!!

2. Dealing with a dreadful case of Comparititus – Sure it was cool in high school to talk like our favourite tv or screen hero. And if they difarrahdn’t have catch phrases, then they had a look and it was copied everywhere (anyone else ever have the Farrah hair back in the 70s?)

At some point we need to get our own identity. Challenging at time because we are constantly comparing ourselves with others. I am sure this is why we ‘should’ on ourselves all the time and make judgements about how we do or don’t measure up. It may also be why we buy what we buy and want what we want. We have been told that if only we have this or that we will be good enough.

What if you knew the truth about this dreadful dis-ease? You are already good enough. In fact you are the only one who can be YOU!!!

Comparing yourself with another robs you of your energy. Remember that you are exactly where you need to be, doing exactly what you need to be doing my friend. Otherwise, you would be somewhere else doing something else.

Trust YOUR journey.

Check in and connect with yourself at any time using tools that work for you. Whether it is energetic work to undo blocks you are holding, images-1seeing a therapist, journalling, walking on a beach, doing breath work or reading a great self-help book (and actually applying the wisdom)… you have choice. And the brilliant thing is that you can’t possibly do being you wrong.

The last reason that popped to my mind about why pretending could be helpful on our spiritual path will sound absolutely delicious to many.

3. Life is a Feast – Imagine yourself at a marvellous feast and it is your turn to go up to the long table and choose what to put on your plate. First round up perhaps you start with the the main course, or because you are an adult now and no one is the boss of you, you head straight for the dessert table at the end. When you are practicing conscious living, your life experiences can nurture and nourish you, just like the foods you choose.

Trust that it is not feast or famine for you. Over doing it on one area of your life may get you off balance and it will be harder to enjoy the journey you are on. Restricting your experiences until a later date may not be the best plan because most things have an expiry date… including you. We are not always promised our health, or our relationships or our life situations. Enjoy what is here now. Love yourself and your experience with all oabundance quotef your heart.

There is an abundance of good available to you and it arrives as you harvest the seeds you have planted along your journey. No one can harvest YOUR seeds, so stop trying to protect yourself and your stuff and forget about hiring out the labour. You will enjoy what you have that much more. And when we live life with an attitude of gratitude we tend to draw more of what we are enjoying to us. Neat right?

Don’t like what you see right now? Change the menu. Your thoughts are creating your reality. Change your thoughts and suddenly what appears at your personal banquet changes too… or at the very least you find a new way to enjoy the meal.

Before anything is a reality it is a thought.

Try on new ideas.

Use your imagination in a way that supports you. Pretend away.

And then, when you are ready, make your dreams a reality.

Your life will be far more beautiful because you will be sharing your most Authentic Self. And that beats a copy any day!
