02/01/2018 | eaglespi | Leave a comment What if you could really move on with your life this 2018 and live a life you love? Wouldn’t that be yummy? Get my top 10 favourite tips learned from the many moves I have made. Enjoy! 1. Stop labelling endings and beginnings. Our greatest heartaches often come by how we tell our stories. We label things as good or bad and even as endings or beginnings, but is that really the case? They are simply experiences. Taking a broader perspective allows for greater compassion for and often a deeper understanding of all those you have drawn into your experience. Empaths have this one down pat because we very easily place ourselves in others’ shoes in an effort to understand why someone is making the choices they are. And if you want to take this one step further for your self-awareness you might want to try journalling about your experiences to get a whole new appreciation of the many layers of text and subtext around an incident. Leave your ego at the door and give this a go. Exploring motivation and reactions of each of the players in your daily experiences can teach you a lot! In fact, Kathy Mercure, a writer friend who specializes in helping folks write from the heart recently told me that some of her biggest aha moments have come from rewriting a story from a different perspective, so why not get to the juicy stuff about YOU! 2. Let go of the baggage if you want to travel lightly. Travelling with clients is done best with a carry on rather than a steamer trunk. Honey if you are going to breeze through 2018 you are going to have to let some things go. You know what I am talking about. There is some emotional baggage you were trying to sneak in with and it is time to let it go. For example, you may be holding onto some hurts which means it is time to do the forgiveness work. Visit me on Facebook and get the Forgiveness Prayer from the Notes section if you are looking for a handy tool to use or email me and I would be happy to send it along for you. 3. If you were meant to stay put you would have been born a rock. Get out of that familiar groove that is quickly becoming a rut. Roots are all well and good but sometimes anchoring yourself to an idea or a place doesn’t mean you are solid. It means you have shut down and aren’t thriving the way you could. Get outside your box. Try going somewhere you have never been and living like a local rather than staying at a resort that gives you a pretty version of what you already know. Learn a new language before you go and chat with a stranger. Not the travelling type? Frankly, it is not the destination that is key, it is how you travel that is most important. Exploring the city you live in like a tourist could lead you to places you don’t regularly visit. And adventures can be found around the corner by doing something as simply as finding a new route to work and noticing what you see. What are you really risking by trying something new? 4. When was the last time you used/wore/appreciated that thing? You will be amazed at how much clutter you have accumulated from 2017 alone! Do you know how much that can weigh on you? Yard sale, Kijiji, donate it to a fundraiser or favourite charity. Let someone else appreciate what you are not valuing any longer. Yes even the good stuff you have been saving for just the right occasion. Help your pocket book by letting go and don’t you dare replace it with something just like it down the road or you will be back at square one. (This applies to relationships as well. Remember what you didn’t like in your last one? If you see red flags this time that show you that you are about to repeat a pattern, pay attention!) 5. Ask for help. I could not have been more delighted during one move to hear about my friend’s love of Tetris as he was carefully packing his truck with my boxes. He was having fun and I was getting the help I so needed. Put on your big girl panties (or for the fellas go commando if you prefer) and ask for help. You do not have to go it alone. Together we are stronger. 6. Remember self-care or pack a bunch of kleenex. With all of the moves I have become good at anticipating what my Inner Child needs to avoid a case of (pardon my French) ‘CrankyAssness’ or worse yet a complete meltdown of tears. Some radical self-care can be just the ticket at this time. Rest. Hydrate. Eat. Running myself ragged doesn’t improve my stamina in the long term. It’s true for you too. And here’s how to make it easy. Know what your go to self-care looks like. What healthy things could you include in your day to keep your stress to a minimum? Make a list of 5-10 things you can do to get an instant energy boost and keep it somewhere close because if your Inner Child pulls a temper tantrum and is getting you to slide backwards on your self-care you are going to feel it. And you may get overwhelmed and need a tool pronto. Make it easy and put that list on your phone or in your journal somewhere. Easy things to do like reading, meditation, a favourite movie to watch. That sort of thing. 7. Stay focussed on the ‘why’ of what you are doing. When your get up and go has got up and went chances are your have either lost your focus or the task no longer holds meaning for you. Stop and reflect. You may find your energy is telling you it is time to move on. Let me explain what I mean. Perhaps the organization you are volunteering for no longer feeds your need to contribute to your community and there is another way you can feel good about those few hours each week that you want to share to make your world a better place. Give yourself permission to use your skills and talents in a way that makes it a win/win situation. 8. Go with your whole heart. Not to get all Yoda on you here but, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Focussing on what was or what could have been leaves you anchored in the past, which means it is going be awfully difficult to be in the present. And that is where your power is. So once you have made a decision to let go or to move on, do it with all of your heart and then follow through. And that leads me to tip#9. 9. Nothing is a mistake if you learn something from it. Distance (from a person or place or pattern) can make the heart grow fonder. Being able to try new experiences may help you realize that you had it good. Really good. And it is ok to go back carrying a new perspective and start fresh. Suddenly that house doesn’t look so small, or that job doesn’t look so challenging or that family member isn’t so hard to get along with once you have had time and space and experiences. And remember this, at the very least every experience holds a gift in it. Your job is to open it. 10. Treasure each day. This is your one life. LIVE IT! Don’t drag yourself through your day because life will be better when ________ (fill in the blank). None of us know how long we have on this precious earth walk, so let’s make it count. Say I love you often. Take the time to talk to strangers. Have the courage to speak your truth. Dance in the kitchen as you prepare food that nourishes you and those you love. Take time for yourself so that you can be present and love the life you live! Have the courage to leave familiar shores and set sail for a year as the adventure it can be and when we see each other we will give a silent nod and smile as fellow journeyers who know that we are here for more than figuring out how to pay the bills or keep up with the Joneses.
